With
The Whole Noyse and
Early Music Vancouver’s Baroque Festival Players

Immense in scale, Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 was the most ambitious work of sacred music before Bach. The work is a marvel of creative genius, bridging the spiritual traditions of renaissance music with the more humanist values of the baroque age. Monteverdi created a seamlessly integration of renaissance polyphonic traditions with new operatic ideals. He housed those evolving musical ideas in a splendid architectural structure that includes polyphonic psalm settings, vocal concertos, hymns, motets, and a virtuosic instrumental sonata, all bound together by Gregorian chant.
The result is a timeless masterpiece of spiritual and emotional power.
The cast for this production is a who’s who of internationally-acclaimed early music performers. A team of outstanding vocal soloists is joined by favourite San Francisco wind band The Whole Noyse and a brilliant ensemble of Festival players directed by Alexander Weimann.
