The festival launches its tenth anniversary season with a Latin music party starring a guest of honour widely recognized as the most popular Latin jazz leader in the world today. Grammy Award winner Poncho Sanchez brings his explosive congas and legendary ensemble from Los Angeles to the Orpheum, to dish out a spicy mix of Afro-Cuban jazz, salsa, and vintage Latin soul.

Sanchez’ band headlines the show and will preceded by a lineup of international and local Latin music favourites from past festivals. To start, direct from Buenos Aires, it’s the seductive jazz-tango sounds of the Adrián Iaias Trio with guest Cuban trumpeter Miguelito Valdés, followed by the “Afro-Cubanadian” quintet Zapata Negro and the powerful big-band Latin jazz of Orquesta Goma Dura.
